Scouting For The Dunk Contest

With rookies winning the dunk contest the last 2 years (Nate Robinson, Josh Smith), it seems like it is becoming a way for highflying rookies to get their names on the NBA map. With that in mind, here are 6 players from this draft that the smart money is on come dunk contest time.

Guillermo Diaz - From the Nate Robinson mold of highflying little guys, Diaz may only be 6'2'' but he has a 40 inch vertical. He is a freak athlete who can jump out of the gym, and the dunk contest loves the little guys.

Rodney Carney - Probably the best run and jump athlete in this draft. The 6'6'' SG has been college basketball's most electric dunker this year.

James White - Under the radar guy from Cincinnati can really fly. He has to worry about making an NBA roster first though, as he will likely be a 2nd round pick.

Rudy Gay - Gay may be the 1st overall pick and this years draft. At 6'9'' he can really sky and has been electrifying the state of Connecticut all year long with his big time dunks. He may take a while to become an impact NBA player, but he is already an impact dunker.

Maurice Ager - SG from Michigan State is a big time scorer and dunker in the Jason Richardson mode. Richardson has won the dunk contest already, Ager may be Michigan State's next big time dunker.

Pops Mensah-Bonsu - This is my dark horse, and he needs to make an NBA roster first, otherwise he's going to be competing for the NBDL dunk contest title. He can really throw it down and has dunked his way into the GW record book.
